Note from David Leighton;
"It is certainly of the south of France and probably dates from Clare’s visits there between 1923 and 1927, when she went on various painting trips with her uncle Jack. (Jack, or John Leighton was the brother of Clare’s father Robert, and a book illustrator. An artist himself, he is reported by Clare to have despaired of ever making an artist of Clare! That probably says something about his own talent!)."
We are grateful to David Leighton for his assistance.
